Instructions for laying track

Hello -

What is the best way to lay my track? I am just getting started with a new layout and didn't use foamboard on my last one. This time I want to do it right. I plan to add 1-3 inches of foamboard first, then arrange my track but do I nail the track down or use glue? Where's the best place to get a step by step instructions as how to start laying the track? Thanks.
