straight wiring when one roller is broken off

Hi,
I am operating a Lionel post-war 2531 illuminated passenger (O scale) car and its rear roller is broken off so both lights cannot operate. Since it is very hard to find this part, I know it is possible to straight wire the rear roller to the front one in order to make both lights operating. Does anyone know how to do this?
